The San Diego Zoo is widely considered as one of the top zoos in the United States if not the world. It is located in Balboa Park in San Diego, California and since its 1915 opening it has grown to one of the largest zoos anywhere with more than 4,000 animals representing more than 800 species.

The best way for newcomers to see the zoo is to take a tram tour upon your arrival. That will show you most of the different regions of the Zoo and then you can walk around for up-close looks at the areas you're most interesting in seeing again. One (crowded) highlight you'll definitely want to experience is the Giant Panda Research Station, home to four Giant Pandas, the largest collection of that species in the United States. Other popular destinations include a large Children's Zoo, areas for monkeys, gorillas and apes, a polar bear plunge and a reptile house.

For more information, please visit the offiical San Diego Zoo web site.
